Biography

Lives and works in Aachen, Germany
Born in 1936 in Cologne, Germany, Joachim Bandau studied at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, Germany from 1957-60. The recipient of several awards (including a fellowship for sculpture by the City of Cologne in 1968 and the Will-Grohmann Award from the Berlin Academy of Arts in 1986), Bandau taught for many years at the Kunstakademie Münster, Germany. His has exhibited nationally and internationally, most notably at Documenta 6, Kassel, Germany in 1977 and at The Drawing Center, New York in 2003.  Bandau’s work is included in such collections as the Achenbach Foundation for Graphic Arts, Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco; Kunstmuseum Basel, Switzerland; Museum Ludwig, Cologne, Germany; Städtisches Museum Schloss Morsbroich, Leverkusen, Germany. Bandau is represented by Patricia Sweetow Gallery, San Francisco. (SJMA Collections Committee, 2012)
