Biography

Benicia Gantner attended Bowdoin College, Brunswick, Maine, where she received an B.A. in studio art and religion in 1992. In 1998, she received her M.F.A. in printmaking from the Cranbrook Academy of Art, Bloomingfield Hills, Michigan.  Her work has been featured in numerous exhibitions including at the Oakland Museum of California; Traywick Contemporary, Berkeley, California; and the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery. She was a finalist for the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art’s Society for the Encouragement of Contemporary Art (SECA) award, and a Hans Burkardt honorary speaker and visiting artist and California State University, Northridge.

This would be the first work by Gantner to enter SJMA’s collection. (SJMA Collections Committee, 2010)
