Biography

Born in Detroit in 1950, Aptekar received his B.F.A. at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and then moved to Brooklyn in 1973 to complete an M.F.A. at the Pratt Institute. He has had solo exhibitions at the Victoria & Albert Museum, London; Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.; and The New Museum, New York; among others.  Aptekar is the recipient of two painting fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, a Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation Award, a residency at the Djerassi Resident Artist Program, and a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Award.
