Biography

Born in 1954 and now living in Brooklyn, Peggy Ahwesh earned her BFA from Antioch College. She has received numerous awards, including an Alpert Award in the Arts, a John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship, and grants from Jerome Foundation and Creative Capital. Her work has been widely exhibited at institutions including the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Museu d’Art Contemporani in Barcelona. This would be the first work by Ahwesh to enter SJMA’s permanent collection. (SJMA Collections Committee, 2005)
