Biography

Helen and Newton Harrison have been collaborating as artists since the 1970s. They have exhibited in both solo and group exhibitions throughout the United States and Europe at institutions including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the San Francisco Museum of Art, the Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art, the Neuer Berliner Kunstverein, Berlin, and the Bauhaus Dessau, Germany. Their work is included in the collections of the National Museum of Modern Art, the Pompidou Center in Paris; the Museums of Modern Art in New York and Chicago; the Tel Aviv Museum in Israel; and the Albertina Museum in Vienna, Austria. In 1983 the Harrison’s exhibited The Guadalupe Meander: A Refugia for San Jose at the San Jose Museum of Art. This would be the first piece by the Harrisons to enter SJMA’s permanent collection.
