Biography

Baca was born in 1946. She earned her BA and MA in art from California State University, Northridge in 1969 and 1979, respectively. In 1977, she participated in an intensive course in mural techniques at the Taller Siqueiros in Cuernavaca, Mexico. She has been on the faculties of the University of California, Irvine and California State University, Monterey Bay. She is a founding faculty member of the Cesar E. Chavez Center at the University of California, Los Angeles and has been the artistic director of Social and Public Art Resource Center (SPARC) since 1981. This would be the first piece by Baca to enter the SJMA collection. (SJMA Collections Committee, 2004)
