Biography

Bailey attended the University of Wisconsin, Madison, earning his B.S. in 1957 and M.S. in 1962. Upon graduation, Bailey accepted a teaching position at Wisconsin Wisconsin State University, Whitewater, WI, which he kept for four years. He then moved to California, where he has been teaching ceramics and California State University, Hayward since 1968. His work has been featured at major institutions across the United States including the Palm Springs Desert Museum, the Oakland Museum of California, the Chicago Art Institute, and the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth. His work was included in SJMA’s fall 2000 exhibition, The Lighter Side of Bay Area Figuration and the current Robots show.. A two-time recipient of the National Endowment for the Arts Grant, Bailey’s work is included in the collections of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Milwaukee Art Museum, and the Oakland Museum of California.
