Biography

Gertrude Bleiberg was born in New York, N.Y. in 1921 and died in Palo Alto on August 10, 2001.  Having discovered art in her 50s, Bleiberg attended the San Francisco Art Institute more than 30 years after completing her Bachelor’s Degree in Education at U.C.L.A., receiving an M.F.A. degree from SFAI in 1977.  A retrospective of Bleiberg’s work was shown at the Palo Alto Art Center in March 2001, as a tribute to the artist’s 80th birthday.  Her art has been included in group exhibitions at institutions such as the Palo Alto Cultural Center; the Judah Magnes Museum in Berkeley; and SJMA (The Figure, 1985).
