Biography

Stephen Hendee was born in Santa Monica, California in 1968. He earned his BFA from San Francisco Art Institute in 1990 and his MFA from Stanford University in 1993. He also attended the prestigious Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. His unique installations have been featured in both solo and group exhibitions at the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art, Laguna Art Museum, St. Louis Art Museum, and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. He has received numerous awards, including a Louis Comfort Tiffany Award, a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant, and a New Jersey State Council of the Arts Grant. Hendee currently lives in the New York area. (SJMA Collections Committee, 2001)
