Biography

Born in St. Louis, Missouri

Rick Arnitz was born in St. Louis, Missouri in 1949. He attended the University of California, Berkeley, where he earned a B.A. in 1975, a M.A. in 1980, and a M.F.A. in 1982. He has been shown widely in both group and solo exhibitions. His work has been included in exhibitions at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the California Palace of the Legion of Honor, the Oakland Museum of California Art, and the San Jose Museum of Art, among others. He has received several awards including a National Endowment for the Arts Award in 1992 and an Art Space Support Grant in 1990. His work is included in the collections of the Oakland Museum of California Art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the San Jose Museum of Art. This will be the fourth piece by Arnitz to enter SJMA’s permanent collection. (SJMA Collections Committee, 2003)
