Biography

David Maxim was born in 1945 in Los Angeles, California. He attended the University of California, Los Angeles, graduating with a B.A. in 1966 and an M.A. in 1968. His work has been shown at various institutions nationwide including the Carnegie Institute, Pittsburg; the Triton Museum; the Oakland Museum; and the Santa Barbara Museum of Art. Maxim’s work is also held in collections of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, the Long Beach Museum of Art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the Museum fur Moderne Kunst in Frankfurt, Germany, among others. SJMA currently owns one painting by Maxim. These would be the first drawings to enter SJMA’s permanent collection. (SJMA Collections Committee, 2005)
