Biography

Born in Long Beach, California, in 1926, Moses received a B.A. from UCLA in 1955 and an M.A. from the same university three years later. Since his first exhibition at the Ferus Gallery in 1958, Moses has shown at many other institutions nationwide, including the Art Institute of Chicago, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the National Gallery, and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. His work is held in several notable collections, including the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Los Angeles County Museum or Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Museum of Modern Art, New York. This would be the first work by Moses to enter SJMA’s permanent collection. (SJMA Collections Committee, 2003)
