Biography

Born in New Jersey in 1930, O'Reilly received his BFA from Syracuse University in 1952 and an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1956. His work is in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art, New York; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; the Whitney Museum of American Art; Boston's Museum of Fine Arts; among others.

O'Reilly's montages are defined by an exploration of eroticism, violence, and the photographic plane via found imagery drawn from art history books, gay erotica, and polaroids taken by the artist. Layering these sources together, he built complex and mysterious scenes of great spatial depth.
