The San José Museum of Art is currently seeking qualified candidates to work as members of its Installation Crew. Installation Crew members assist with all phases of the art installation and gallery preparation process. This is a part-time, contract, project-to-project position. Hours and days are somewhat flexible.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the installation of large-scale art exhibitions.
- Wrap, pack, and create a wide variety of artwork.
- Prepare and paint gallery exhibition spaces.
- Maintain gallery spaces.
- Assist in the production and installation of exhibition graphics.
- Assist in the fabrication of exhibition components and support materials.
- Transport artwork, crates, and exhibition materials throughout the museum.
Qualifications
- 1 year of gallery preparation, art handling, or related experience.
- Candidates function well individually and as a member of a team.
- Ability to learn new skills quickly.
- Excellent and creative problem-solving skills.
- Experience with wrapping, packing, and handling artwork and related packing materials.
- Comfortable with using basic hand tools, power tools, and hardware.
- Experience with wall painting and related techniques.
- Excellent time management and ability to meet strict deadlines.
Compensation
Commensurate with experience.
