San Jose Museum of Art Appoints Lisa James Director of Development

SAN JOSE, California (August 1, 2012)— The San Jose Museum of Art has appointed Lisa R. James of Sunnyvale to the position of director of development. James, currently director of development at the Community School of Music and Arts in Mountain View, California, has 27 years of experience fundraising for cultural organizations and a range of other non-profits in the Bay Area and beyond. She will join SJMA’s staff in late August.

“I’m delighted to welcome Lisa to our senior staff team. With her energy and her dedication to contemporary culture, she will be an asset to SJMA and a wonderful partner for both the staff and board,” said Susan Krane, Oshman Executive Director. “She is a seasoned, accomplished development pro who knows the ropes from top to bottom. Lisa also brings a vibrant sense of fun, creativity, and entrepreneurship to fundraising. She will be a great ringleader as we all strive to achieve SJMA’s ambitions for the future.”

James has been director of development at Community School of Music and Arts since 2011. She has previously led development efforts at Opera Colorado, Denver; Johnson & Wales University, Denver Campus; the Northern California Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation, San Francisco; the San Francisco Art Institute; Earthjustice, San Francisco; and the San Francisco Opera. Before turning to a career in development, James curated performing arts at 7 Stages Theatre in Atlanta and at Alverno College in Milwaukee. She holds an M.A. in Business, Arts Administration from the University of Wisconsin, Madison and received her B.A. from the University of Denver.

As director of development, James will lead all aspects of SJMA’s development department. She will oversee the Museum’s development, membership, and facility-rental programs. James will develop and implement a comprehensive long-range plan for institutional advancement, to achieve strategic plans for the expansion of public programs.
