SJMA offers a range of services that respond to the tremendous ethnic and linguistic diversity of the surrounding communities.
Complimentary translations of exhibition texts in Spanish and in large-print text are available in each gallery.

The San Jose Museum of Art offers the following services and accommodations for visitors with disabilities:
General Information on Physical Access
- The Museum's facilities are wheelchair accessible, with an elevator connecting all three floors. A wheelchair ramp lines the front of the building at the Plaza entrance.
- Wheelchairs, strollers and gallery stools are available for loan at the information desk.
- Benches are available in most galleries. Additionally, gallery stools are available for loan at the information desk. These portable, light weight stools have a handle and can be carried throughout the galleries.
- Accessible restrooms are located on the lower level.
- The Museum does not have a parking facility, however there is one accessible parking spot on Market Street, near the Museum's main entrance. A disabled parking placard is required.
- Manual and motorized wheelchairs, walkers, canes, service animals on a leash, and other assistive devices are always permitted in the galleries.
Services for Visitors who are Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing
- Gallery tours in American Sign Language (ASL) can be arranged with 72 hours advanced notice.
Arrangements for signed tours can be made by calling (408) 521-4011 or at pvu@sjmusart.org.
- Assistive Listening Devices (ALDs) for hard-of-hearing visitors are available upon request for tours and lectures.
- Open captioning is provided whenever instructional videos are in use in the galleries.
Services for Visitors who are Blind or Visually Impaired
- Large print gallery text is available at the entrance to every gallery.
- The San Jose Museum of Art presents TOUCH TOURS for blind and visually impaired visitors and their companions. Touch tour of SJMA’s New Year, New Gifts exhibition are offered by appointment at 10:00 am before opening hours, especially for you! Specially trained docents will guide you through the galleries, explaining works of art and encouraging you to touch selected pieces. We are able to offer this unique experience for only $3 per person and offer a group rate of $70 for groups of 10-30. Book a hands-on art making class after your tour and the tour is free. Classes are taught by the Museum’s Studio Art Educators. There is a nominal $50 fee to cover the cost of materials. With the exception of touch tours, all of the above noted services for visitors with disabilities are offered free of charge.
