The Historic Wing was constructed in 1892 from rough-hewn golden sandstone and features beautiful solid oak floors, gracefully arched windows and detailed moldings. The Historic Wing includes the Museum Cafe, the Museum Store and Charlotte Wendel Education Center. The New Wing is a combination of natural sandstone, pre-cast concrete, glass, and aluminum and features a plaza-length arcade with an impressive, pillared portico. The entrance to the spacious Lobby features three exquisite hand-blown glass chandeliers by Dale Chihuly, reflected onto the polished marble floors. Thirty-foot windows extend all the way up to the DiNapoli Skybridge Gallery, which overlooks the Lobby. The graceful arched windows in the Charlotte Wendel Education Center look across the way to the Basilica next-door and to the palms in Cesar Chavez Plaza. Highly polished hardwood floors creates a unique atmosphere for dinner and dancing. The Fairmont Plaza, used in conjunction with the Museum, allows for outdoor galas that accommodate up to 2,500 guests. The Plaza is ideal for large convention gatherings and themed events. |
