2012 Holiday Activities at San Jose Museum of Art

SAN JOSE, California (November 1, 2012)— The San Jose Museum of Art announces several festive public programs during the 2012 holiday season. 

The Museum will offer “DIY Art: Festive Family Fun” on Saturday, November 24, from 1 to 3 PM and again on Saturday, December 8, from 1 to 4 PM. Visitors of all ages will make handmade greeting cards or gift tags. The DIY Art program is free with Museum admission. An additional suggested donation of $5 helps cover the cost of materials. 

On Sunday, December 16, at 2 PM, the Museum will offer a special public tour focused on the seasonal colors of red and green. The tour is free with Museum admission.

On Thursday, December 20, the Museum will host its monthly Third Thursday from 5 to 8 PM. A program of holiday music will begin at 5 PM with harp and flute music by the Dinwiddie Duet. At 6 PM, children from the Trace Elementary School Choir will perform. The Silicon Valley Chapter of the American Harp Society will present an ensemble program of traditional music of the season, featuring 12 harps, from 6:30 to 7:45 PM. Complimentary hot cocoa will be served in the Museum Store, which will be open until 8 PM for last-minute holiday shopping. Admission to Third Thursday is $5 after 5 PM (free to members).

The Museum will open a new exhibition in the Koret Family Gallery in mid-November. Mark My Word will highlight art that incorporates text, including works by Sandow Birk, Brian Dettmer, Jack Fulton, Robert Hudson, Samuel Rodriguez, Ed Ruscha, and Inez Storer. The gallery will also feature a hands-on family activity, which will change every few months. 

The Museum is open Tuesday through Sunday, 11 AM to 5 PM, and until 8 PM or later on the third Thursday of each month. The Museum is closed Mondays and closed Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day. 

The Museum Store is open during Museum hours, and offers a wide variety of contemporary gifts, jewelry, books, and toys for all ages.
